European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined the French president in condemning the move.
The restrictions were enacted on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four activists fighting false information, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
